Project: Treasure Island

Advocating for Effective Cleanup and Sustainable Redevelopment

Since 1984 Arc Ecology has been the leading San Francisco-based environmental organization promoting the toxic cleanup of Treasure and Yerba Buena Islands. 2,500 families will eventually live on the Islands. Arc Ecology is working to ensure that the environment will be safe for them.

Arc Ecology was actively involved in the original planning committee that put together the Treasure Island Reuse Plan, and an Arc Ecology staff scientist was very active for several years on the Treasure Island Restoration Advisory Board. Our staff scientist worked closely with a small group of environmental organizations that gave rise to the Treasure Island Wetlands Project, which has been advocating construction of wetlands to create habitat and storm water treatment.
